Supporting Every Student and Teacher Together

Welcome! The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind Parent Teacher Organization (VSDB PTO) is a collaborative community of parents, legal guardians, teachers, residential staff, and school supporters.

Because our students come from all across the Commonwealth of Virginia—many living on campus in the residential halls during the week—our PTO serves a unique role. We work hard to bridge the geographic distance, keeping families connected, informed, and actively involved in their children's school life.

Who We Serve

We proudly support the entire VSDB student body, which includes:

Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH) Students
Blind and Visually Impaired (B/VI) Students
Deafblind Students
Students with multi-sensory and additional learning needs

Every fundraiser we run, event we host, and resource we fund is designed to be fully accessible to every single student on campus.

The VSDB PTO is dedicated to fostering a close relationship between home and school so that parents, guardians, staff, and community members can work together to support Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Blind, and Visually Impaired students. We focus on building community, celebrating our students’ identities, and making sure every family feels welcome and informed.

Supporting Our Incredible Staff

We organize family events and monthly meetings with professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters and real-time captioning, ensuring every parent can comfortably participate.

Many of our students live on campus from Monday through Friday. We fund recreational equipment for the dorms, host fun social mixers, and support after-school clubs to make campus feel like a warm, engaging home away from home.

We host teacher and staff appreciation events throughout the school year to show our gratitude for the specialized, dedicated educators and residential advisors who serve our kids.
